After searching and comparing the different options for each hosting company we decided to go with a solution offered by EasyCGI.com.  They were very helpful and happen to use the same technology as are previous hosting provider that we will not mention!! (cough-Ipower).  This was a nightmare in itself because the control was out of our hands, but fortunately we will take the most from this experience and never let it happen it again.  Needless to say we are up and running again and we will be releasing a new website for 2009!!  We’re excited and we hope you are too.

We are planning something big for our Painters & Poets events.  Every month we have events with live poetry/song, live art, and music for people to come out and enjoy.  Positive atmosphere and an alternative to the same ol’ club scene in the city.

Dabonaire Media Group and Orange Vine Entertainment are setting things up to launch this event on a national level starting with Washington, D.C. and New York.  We will be looking for people interested in becoming franchisees for this event with minimal investment (less than $3000).  You will have access to the Painters & Poets website specifically for your city, will receive Painters & Poets T-Shirts to sell, personal business cards, promotional material to get the word out, access to your own email list, and more!

On Tuesday, November 25th, the servers of Dabonaire Media Group went down!  We were working on our new venture Orange Vine Entertainment when all of sudden we could not access the servers anymore.  After hours of waiting…thinking maybe it was just a hiccup in the server, We realized that our sites were not going to come back up.  As far as I am concerned that is unacceptible!  We have a VPS (virtual private server) with IPOWER and they have made things worse.  Not only have they set-up a new server with none of my files restored, but no one seems to know what exactly happened.  Unacceptible I say!  We are in the process of switching to a more reliable and support-friendly host.  So in the meantime you will find updates here on our blog.  Yea we know it’s not the real deal Holyfield but it will have to do until then.

So currently I am working on five…no make that 6…wait…7 projects that have concurrent deadlines….??!!! Sometimes I stay up until 6am knowing I have to be at my day job at 10am. For the most part my normal bed time is at 3am. But even though I am sleep deprived and probably malnourished, I know my efforts will bring something greater. Back to the matter, so I have these multiple projects and I am learning a great deal about myself as well as what future steps I need to take to ensure progress with my business and clients. Time management is crucial to success and we all must learn that at sometime or another. I came to the realization (which I’m sure many of you know) that between Time and Money you need an abundance of at least one when working on strict deadlines. If you have plenty of Time with little to no Money, then like me (just not right now…lol), you can work on projects and eventually get them done with hiring anyone to help. Now if that same deadline is cut short by a week or two then you definitely want to have some capital to possible sub-contract the work to people. My motto for 2008 is “work smarter not harder” so I am opening my mind and observing everything that is happening.

We have officially launched our e-mail newsletter campaign today! It will be used mainly to let our current and future clients know what we’re all about. We also will be using to let folks know the details of our monthly event, “Painters & Poets”. Personally I am very exciting about the results…oh and if you read the previous post, this will be integrated into our e-mail marketing plan as well.

So as of February 2008 Dabonaire Media Group has about 15 clients with about seven of them being active. For those who do not know, I am THE employee, owner, marketer, receptionist, and pr of the company. When I refer to Dabonaire Media Group as ‘we’, this is only a gesture of speaking things into existence and I am not sure but I think that moment has arrived. I am in need of employees, but I do not have the capital to pay salaries or hourly wages… Freelance? Small business loan? Contract-to-permanent employees? What do I do and what will be better for my company in the long run. My thoughts are so jumbled….ahhhh……more on this soon….back to work for now.

Okay so last night was great for our first event. Along with ATL2Nite.com/Jimmy Jones, we hosted a showcase full of talented poets, singers, and artists. The concept of an event like this is not uncommon….Several poetry sessions and performances while an artists creates a piece inspired by what they are hearing. The purpose of this event was to showcase local Atlanta talent as well as to expose the underground movement of art in Atlanta. Coming from D.C./MD I have never had a problem going out to Adam’s Morgan or Georgetown to find a live band playing soulful jazz until heart’s content, but down here I am finding it very difficult. All in all, the event was a success and will be even better next time around.

Last night I was on my way to the skating rink for my weekly exercise when I nearly ran into the back of a stranded car on top of a hill.  I noticed a guy standing near it on his cell phone.  I got about 100 feet from where he was and I turned around to see if he needed any help.  It turns out that he did.  His car was stranded and he needed to push it into the near by Marta (transit) station about 200 feet away, so I parked my car and we begin to push.  I must say that I enjoyed the work out, but more so I enjoyed helping him…even though it was much, I still felt good about it.  This story exemplifies the culture of Dabonaire Media Group and the principles we believe in…..helping others even if it means we get our hands dirty!

Today I went to a local Chinese acupuncture place to relieve some stress from all of the work coming in. It was a very relaxing experience, authenticity down to the music. Apparently the place has been established for 14 years. The experience was great overall. I would recommend it for everyone.

Welcome to the blog of Dabonaire Media Group.  This will primarily be written by me, Vaughn Dabney, the owner and proprietor of DMG.  We are in the process of reaching out to the community and working on our brand awareness and I thought what better way for people to learn about me and my company.  Please bare with me as I personalize this blog as days go by.  On here you will find posts on events that I have attended as well as events hosted by DMG.  I support my fellow entrepreneurs in their endeavors…plus we like to relax in a nice lounge.  Tonight I experienced something that I think everyone should….PlayDate Atlanta.  A venue where people of a mature age congregate to a hotel ballroom (or something of that size) and different games ranging from Spades to Checkers to Taboo.  What FUN!!!  I actually had the chance to chat with the genius entrepreneur behind this event…Imari, great idea!  I talked with him about some events with DMG that will coincide with what he’s doing….feeling very hopeful and confident.  You can check out his site at www.PlayDateATL.com.
